MASTER Your Futsal Ball Control Skills!
MASTER Your Futsal Ball Control Skills!
Many players struggle with ball control, leading to missed opportunities during games. Whether it's a lack of confidence, ineffective technique, or simply not practicing enough, poor ball control can be a major hindrance to your performance on the court. It's frustrating when you can't execute the moves you want, and it's even more demoralizing when your opponents capitalize on your mistakes. Improving your ball control is crucial if you want to take your game to the next level. In futsal, every second counts, and having the ability to control the ball in tight spaces is vital. By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding of how to overcome these challenges and dominate on the court.
In order to elevate your ball control level, these are necessary skills to improve:
- dribbling with the sole of the foot
- dribbling with the instep and outside of the foot
- ball trapping
- footwork
- 1st touch
- 1st touch with progression
- driving the ball on speed
- passing
- laterality
Inconsistent ball control can also affect your overall game sense and decision-making. When you're not comfortable with the ball at your feet, you're more likely to panic and make rushed decisions. This, in turn, can lead to turnovers, and before you know it, the opposing team is counter-attacking. So, it's essential to develop a sense of trust with the ball, and that's exactly what we'll be working on today.
In 2 drills, which I am going to provide, we'll be working on a combination of dribbling, passing, and receiving. By the end of these drills, you'll have a better understanding of how to control the ball in game-like situations. Remember to start slow and gradually increase your speed as you become more comfortable with the drill.
Drill number 1 to improve futsal passing skills:
- 3 players, 1 ball
- Player without the ball makes a faint move and then opens up
- Player with the ball makes the strong pass down the ground and moves towards the ball
- Players exchange one-touch passes and take their positions accordingly
- Drill restarts again
One of the main reasons players struggle with ball control is because they don't practice regularly. It's easy to get caught up in scrimmages and game-like situations, but if you're not dedicating time to specifically work on your technique, you'll never see improvement. Controlling the ball is not just about being able to dribble past defenders; it's also about being able to receive passes with precision and pass the ball with accuracy. In this video, we'll cover a passing drill that you can incorporate into your training to see rapid progress.
Being able to pass the ball with accuracy and precision is vital in futsal. Receiving the ball is also a critical component of ball control. Being able to control passes with precision is essential in futsal, especially when receiving the ball in tight spaces.
Here is another drill to improve futsal passing skills:
- Player with the ball dribbles past cones
- Player on the flank starts with faking the move and then opens-up for a pass
- Player with the ball passes the ball to the flank and then moves to the opposite flank
- Player with the ball dribbles down the flank and makes a pass
- Receiver takes the 1st touch with the sole of the foot and then dribbles past cones
- Then makes a pass to the last player
- Player on the flank makes fake movement and then sprints towards the opposite goal
- Lob pass goes
- Receiver must try to hit the ball with the first touch and hit one of the cones in the goal
- Drill restarts
To wrap up, controlling the ball is a fundamental aspect of futsal, and by incorporating this drill into your training, you'll see rapid improvement in your overall game.
